Once any showers pass this morning, the heat builds back. But it should not rival the record-breaking scorcher of two weeks ago. It is a shorter peak heat event (tomorrow is the hottest) combined with increased chances of showers, storms, and clouds. Still, heat indices surge to around 100 tomorrow and humidity hangs on probably right into the weekend.

Today (Tuesday): A warm front lifting north through the region this morning is delivering a decent (50-60 percent) chance of showers, with odds increasing north of the District. There could be some rumbles of thunder too. Skies should become partly sunny this afternoon, but temperatures will build on top of the already hefty humidity to push us toward the upper 80s to low 90s.
